Clique: Bone White and Pitch Black
Clique is one design in two opposite colourways: Bone White, with dark clustered forms on a pale ground, and Pitch Black, with pale forms on a black ground. The right one depends less on taste than on your walls and your furniture.
In short
- The Rugberry Clique rug is hand tufted in New Zealand wool, with clustered forms gathering and parting across the ground.
- Clique comes in Bone White and Pitch Black, starts from about ₹37,000 and is made in 5x8 to 12x15 ft, with any size to order.
- Against white Indian walls and pale floors, Clique Pitch Black anchors the room; against dark teak or walnut furniture, Clique Bone White keeps the room from feeling heavy.
- A black rug does not hide dust: lint, hair and the pale grey of city dust show on black pile as clearly as stains show on white.
Here is how each colourway behaves, and what it asks of you.
What is the Clique rug?
Clique is a hand-tufted Rugberry rug in New Zealand wool, drawn with clustered forms that gather and part across the ground. In the detail photographs the forms are filled with fine parallel lines, so they read as texture up close and as solid shapes from across the room.

Because the design is the same in both colourways, you can choose purely on how much light or weight a room needs.
Which Clique works with white walls?
In a room with white walls and a pale marble or vitrified floor, Clique Pitch Black works best, because it gives the room a fixed point. Without one, a white room can feel like it is floating.

Most new apartments in Pune, Bengaluru or Gurugram are handed over with white walls and pale tile, and many owners keep them that way. A black rug with pale drawing lets that scheme stay calm while giving the seating area a clear edge.
Repeat the black once or twice elsewhere, a lamp base, a picture frame or the legs of a side table, so the rug looks chosen rather than dropped in.
Which Clique works with dark wood?
With dark teak, sheesham or walnut furniture, Clique Bone White works best, because it lifts the floor and keeps the room from closing in. A black rug under dark wood merges into one mass.

Many Indian homes carry inherited furniture: a carved sheesham sofa, a teak dining set, a rosewood almirah. Bone White gives those pieces a light ground to sit on, and the dark lines in the rug pick up the tone of the wood.

A black rug does not hide dust. It simply shows different things than a white one.
Does a black rug hide dirt?
No. A black rug hides dark stains such as tea and coffee, but it shows lint, pet hair, crumbs and the pale dust that settles in Indian cities. A white rug does the opposite.

| Clique Bone White | Clique Pitch Black | |
|---|---|---|
| Shows clearly | Tea, coffee, turmeric, footprints | Dust, lint, white or grey pet hair, crumbs |
| Forgives | Pale dust, light hair | Dark spills |
| Care rhythm | Blot spills at once | Vacuum on suction more often |
For a home with a pale dog or cat, choose Bone White over Pitch Black, because pale hair on a black pile shows from across the room. For a home that hosts large tea parties, Pitch Black forgives more. Either way, a dense wool pile gives you time to blot.
How does Clique compare with the Monochrome rug?
Clique is about clustered forms; the Monochrome Wool Rug is about lines. Both are hand tufted in New Zealand wool in black and ivory.

Monochrome starts from about ₹38,000 and is made in the same six sizes. Its detail photographs show dense black lines running across an ivory ground, a stronger graphic than Clique. Choose Monochrome where you want the rug to be the main event, and Clique where it should support the furniture.
What size Clique should you buy?
For a living room with a three seater sofa and two chairs, an 8x10 ft Clique is usually right; for a bedroom with a queen bed, choose 6x9 or 8x10 ft so the rug shows on both sides.

With a strong pattern, size matters more than with a plain rug. If the rug is too small, the clustered forms crowd under the coffee table and the drawing is lost.
Before ordering, mark the rug size on the floor with masking tape and live with it for two days. Check that the front legs of every seat land on the rug, and that at least 12 inches of floor shows between the rug and the walls.
Frequently asked questions
Is Clique Pitch Black a good choice for a family home?
It can be, as long as you are happy to vacuum often. Clique Pitch Black forgives dark spills but shows dust, lint and pale hair.
Will Clique Bone White stain easily?
A pale rug shows stains sooner, but New Zealand wool resists spills for long enough to blot them. Blot from the outside in with cold water and a white cloth.
Can Clique be made in other colours?
Yes. Rugberry lists custom colours on request for Clique, and any size can be made to order.
How much is the Clique rug?
Clique starts from about ₹37,000 at Rugberry, in both Bone White and Pitch Black.
