Cabella: Wool and Silk with a Low Sheen
The Rugberry Cabella Wool & Silk Rug has a low sheen that lifts as the light moves, so its four colours look different at ten in the morning and at nine at night. Choosing between Mink, Latte, Frost and Flax is really a question of the light in your room.
In short
- The Rugberry Cabella Wool & Silk Rug is hand tufted in New Zealand wool and silk, from about ₹41,000 in 5x8 ft, stocked from 5x8 to 12x15 ft.
- Cabella comes in four colours: Mink, a taupe; Latte, a soft beige; Frost, a pale grey; and Flax, the palest, close to ivory.
- Silk in a rug reflects more light than wool, so a wool and silk rug looks paler and brighter in daylight and warmer and deeper under lamps.
- The safest way to choose a Cabella colour is to look at a swatch in the room at morning, late afternoon and under evening lamps.
What is the Cabella rug?
Cabella is a hand tufted rug in New Zealand wool and silk, its surface marked with fine raised strokes where the silk catches the light. Rugberry describes it as soft, with a low sheen that shifts as you cross the room.

It is stocked in six sizes from 5x8 to 12x15 ft, from about ₹41,000, and is listed in any size and colour to order. The pattern is quiet enough to read as a plain rug from across a room and as texture close up.
Our guide to wool and silk rugs explains what each fibre brings to the blend.
Why does a wool and silk rug change colour with the light?
A wool and silk rug changes with the light because the two fibres return light differently. Wool scatters it, so it reads matt and steady; silk reflects it, so the silk strokes brighten when light falls along them and darken when it falls across.
This is the sheen Rugberry describes, and it also explains shading: walk around a Cabella and one end can look a shade lighter than the other. Nothing is wrong with the rug; you are seeing the pile lean in one direction.
How do the four Cabella colours look in Indian daylight?
In strong Indian daylight, each Cabella colour reads about a shade lighter and cooler than on a screen, and the silk strokes stand out more.

- Flax reads almost ivory at midday, and is the one to choose for a room you want to feel larger.
- Latte keeps a gentle beige even in bright sun, a safe middle for marble and oak.
- Frost turns silvery near a north facing window and suits grey stone and white walls.
- Mink holds its taupe best of the four, so it suits a sunny room that needs a little weight.
A south or west facing room in Chennai or Ahmedabad gets hard, warm light for much of the afternoon. In such a room, choose Mink or Latte over Flax, because a pale silk blend can look washed out in full sun.
Daylight shows a silk blend at its palest. Lamplight shows it at its warmest. Choose for the hours you actually spend in the room.
How does Cabella change under warm lamps?
Under warm lamps, every Cabella colour moves towards gold and the sheen becomes softer and more even. Most Indian homes use warm white bulbs of around 2700K to 3000K in living rooms and bedrooms, and these pull beige and taupe towards honey.

Frost changes the most: its grey warms to a soft greige in the evening. Flax turns creamy, Latte deepens, and Mink can look close to brown.
If your room is lit by cool white tube lights or panels of 4000K and above, the shift goes the other way, and Frost and Flax can look cold. That is a reason to check the bulbs before blaming the rug.
How do you test a Cabella colour at home?
Test a Cabella colour by placing a swatch on the floor where the rug will lie and looking at it three times in one day.
- Mid morning, with the curtains open, to see the colour at its most neutral.
- Late afternoon, when the light is low and warm, to see how much the silk lifts.
- After dark, under the lamps you actually use, which is when most families sit in the room.
Look at the swatch from where you sit, not from above, since the angle changes the sheen. Swatches are available from the swatches collection.
Which Cabella colour suits which room?
Flax and Frost suit bedrooms and pale living rooms, Latte suits almost any room, and Mink suits sunny or busy rooms where a deeper tone is easier to live with.

For a home with young children or pets, choose Mink or Latte over Flax, because a mid tone hides small marks and the silk strokes break up the surface. For a quiet bedroom in soft north light, Frost or Flax will look their best.
Frequently asked questions
Does a wool and silk rug look different in person than online?
Yes. A wool and silk rug looks paler in daylight and warmer under lamps than it does in a studio photograph, because the silk reflects whatever light is in the room. A swatch seen in your own room is the most reliable guide.
Why does one end of my Cabella look lighter than the other?
That is shading, caused by the pile leaning in one direction and the silk reflecting light along it. It is normal for a wool and silk rug and changes as you walk around it.
Is Cabella suitable for a living room in daily use?
Yes, with care. The wool gives the pile resilience, while the silk is better kept away from the busiest walkways and from spills left to sit, so blot quickly and rotate the rug twice a year.
