Custom Size or Ready Stock: Which Rug Route to Take
Choose a stock size when one of the six standard sizes leaves an even border of floor around the rug in your room; choose made to measure when it does not. Most Rugberry designs come in both, so the decision is about your room, not the rug.
In short
- Rugberry stock sizes are 5x8, 6x9, 8x10, 9x12, 10x14 and 12x15 ft, which is 150x240 to 360x450 cm.
- A stock size works when it leaves 30 to 60 cm of floor on every side of the rug, or sits evenly under the front legs of the furniture.
- A custom size suits rooms with columns, bay windows, L shaped sofas or long, narrow layouts common in Indian apartments.
- Most Rugberry product pages list any size, any colour, made to your measure, and the Ready to Ship collection holds rugs already made.
What are Rugberry's stock sizes?
Six sizes, listed in feet and centimetres on each product page:

| Stock size | In cm | Area | Typical fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5x8 ft | 150x240 | 40 sq ft | Study, two seater sofa, foot of a queen bed |
| 6x9 ft | 180x270 | 54 sq ft | Three seater sofa in a 2BHK |
| 8x10 ft | 240x300 | 80 sq ft | Queen bed, sofa and two chairs |
| 9x12 ft | 270x360 | 108 sq ft | King bed, larger living room |
| 10x14 ft | 300x420 | 140 sq ft | Open living and dining |
| 12x15 ft | 360x450 | 180 sq ft | Bungalow drawing room |
When does a stock size work?
A stock size works when, laid out in tape on your floor, it leaves an even border of 30 to 60 cm to the walls, or catches the front legs of every seat in the group. Mark the four corners with masking tape and walk around it for a day before deciding.

A plain, regular room with one sofa wall is the easy case. The Ivory Wool Rug, hand tufted in New Zealand wool and plain enough to sit under anything, comes in all six stock sizes for exactly that kind of room.
When should you go custom?
Go custom when the room fights the rectangle. Common cases in Indian homes:

- L shaped sofas. The rug often needs to be squarer than 8x10, such as 8x8 or 9x9 ft.
- Long living and dining rooms. A 4x12 ft runner style rug may suit a passage that a 5x8 ft cannot.
- Columns and pillars. Older flats often have a column standing into the room; a rug sized to stop short of it looks deliberate.
- Bay windows and sit outs. A rug sized to the alcove, not the room, settles a reading corner.
If the tape test leaves 15 cm on one side and 90 cm on the other, no stock size will look right. That is the moment for made to measure.

What can you change on a custom Rugberry rug?
Most product pages list the same line under Customisation: any size, any colour, made to your measure. The Grain Wool Rug in tan and the Plush Wool Rug in wheat, both handloom woven in New Zealand wool, read exactly that way.

So you can keep a design you like and change its dimensions, or keep the size and change the colour to sit with your sofa. Send the room measurements, a photo of the space and the design name, and the Rugberry team confirms what is possible for that construction.
How is a custom rug priced?
A custom rug is priced on area and construction, the same logic as the stock sizes. To estimate, divide the price of the nearest stock size by its area, then multiply by the area you need.

For example, a Grain Wool Rug in 8x10 ft is about ₹74,000 for 80 sq ft, roughly ₹925 per sq ft. An 8x8 ft rug of 64 sq ft would land near ₹59,000 on that rate, but treat it as an estimate and ask for a quote. The Quick Custom Program is set up for common size changes.
When is ready stock the better route?
Ready stock is better when the room is regular and you want the rug now, or when you are not yet sure of the final layout. A stock rug can move to another room later; a custom rug is cut to one space.

For a rented flat or a home you may leave in a few years, choose a stock size over a custom one, because it will fit the next room too. The Ready to Ship collection holds rugs already made.
Frequently asked questions
Is a custom size rug more expensive than a stock size?
A custom rug is priced on its area and construction, much like a stock size. An odd size can work out close to the nearest stock size per square foot, so ask for a quote before assuming it costs more.
Can I order a Rugberry stock design in a different colour?
Most Rugberry product pages list custom colours on request. Order a swatch of the original first, then describe the change against it.
What measurements should I send for a custom rug?
Send the room length and width, the positions of doors, columns and windows, and the furniture sizes. A photograph of the room taken from the doorway helps the team see the layout.
Measure twice, tape once, then choose. The customisable rugs show what can be changed.
