The Quick Custom Programme: Your Size, Fewer Steps

The Rugberry Quick Custom Program makes four handloom rug families in the size your room needs: Grain, Plush, Meraki and the Cashmere Blend. Because the fibre, construction and colourway are already decided, the main thing you bring is a measurement.

In short

  • The Rugberry Quick Custom Program covers 19 handloom colourways across Grain, Plush, Meraki and the Cashmere Blend.
  • Grain and Plush are New Zealand wool, Meraki is jute with threads of silk, and the Cashmere Blend is wool and cashmere.
  • In 5x8 ft, the programme rugs start from about ₹37,000 for Grain, ₹38,000 for Meraki, ₹40,000 for Plush and ₹54,000 for the Cashmere Blend.
  • A custom size is priced on area, so the stock price divided by 40 sq ft gives a fair rate per sq ft to estimate with.

What is the Quick Custom Program?

It is a set of Rugberry rugs chosen for custom sizing with fewer decisions. You choose a family and one of its existing colourways, then give the length and width your room needs.

Compare that with a fully customised rug, where you also choose the design, the colours from a colour pom box and sometimes the fibre. Each of those choices adds a round of samples and approvals, and the programme leaves them out.

Which rugs are in the programme?

All the rugs in the programme are handloom, and each family keeps its own fibre and feel:

Family Fibre Feel Colourways From, 5x8 ft
Grain New Zealand wool Low and closely textured Sage, Umber, Sandstone, Flax, Tan, Mochaccino, Russet about ₹37,000
Plush New Zealand wool Plush, soft and deep Ivory, Wheat, Sand, Camel, Copper, Chocolate about ₹40,000
Meraki Jute and silk Firm and textured, lifted by threads of silk Sage, Caramel, Chocolate about ₹38,000
Cashmere Blend Wool and cashmere Fine, dense and very soft Salt, Natural, Taupe about ₹54,000

For a dining room choose Grain, for floor seating or a bedroom choose Plush, for an entrance or a living room with heavy footfall choose Meraki, and for a quiet bedroom where softness matters most choose the Cashmere Blend.

Why do Indian rooms so often need a custom size?

Indian rooms are rarely built around rug sizes. A living room of 11x15 ft, a dining space that shares a wall with a passage, or a bedroom with a wardrobe that takes 2 ft of one side all fall between 8x10 and 9x12 ft.

A rug that is 1 ft too long can block a door or run under a built in cabinet. A rug that is 1 ft too short leaves the front legs of a sofa hanging off the edge, which is the most common sizing mistake in Indian homes.

The programme is designed for exactly that gap. Our custom size rug guide explains when a stock size is close enough and when it is not.

A rug that is one foot wrong is the most expensive rug in the house.

How do you measure a room for a custom rug?

Measure the furniture, not the walls. The rug should relate to the seating, the bed or the table, with floor showing around it.

  1. Mark the furniture layout first. Measure the outer edge of the seating group, or the table plus 2 ft each side for a dining room.
  2. Leave 1 to 1.5 ft of floor between the rug and the walls in a living room, and at least 8 inches in a small room.
  3. Check door swings, the threshold of a sliding door and any built in wardrobe base.
  4. Tape the outline on the floor and walk around it for a day. Adjust in 6 inch steps.
  5. Give the final size in feet and cm, length first, and keep a photo of the taped floor.

The glossary entry on made to measure covers the terms you will see on the order.

What does a custom size cost?

A custom size is priced on area and construction, so the 5x8 ft price is a useful base. Divide it by 40 sq ft to get a rate to estimate with:

Grain Wool Rug in Umber, about ₹37,000 in 5x8 ft.
Grain Wool Rug in Umber, about ₹37,000 in 5x8 ft.
Meraki Jute & Silk Rug in Caramel, about ₹38,000 in 5x8 ft.
Meraki Jute & Silk Rug in Caramel, about ₹38,000 in 5x8 ft.
  • Grain: about ₹925 per sq ft.
  • Meraki: about ₹950 per sq ft.
  • Plush: about ₹1,000 per sq ft.
  • Cashmere Blend: about ₹1,350 per sq ft.

So a Grain rug of 7.5x10.5 ft, about 79 sq ft, would come to roughly ₹73,000 at that rate. Treat these figures as a guide, not a quote, and add GST at checkout.

When is the programme not the right route?

If you want a colour that none of the 19 colourways offers, or a pattern, the programme is not the right route. Use the wider customisable rugs range, where most designs can be made in any size and colour.

It is also worth a second thought if a stock size is within 6 inches of what you need. A stock rug is the simplest path, and a few inches of extra floor are rarely noticed once the furniture is in.

Frequently asked questions

Which rugs are in the Rugberry Quick Custom Program?

The programme covers the handloom Grain and Plush wool rugs, the Meraki Jute and Silk Rug and the Cashmere Blend Rug, in 19 colourways in all. Each can be made in a size to suit your room.

Can I change the colour within the Quick Custom Program?

The programme works with each family's existing colourways, which is what keeps it simple. For a new colour, the wider customisable rugs range takes colour requests.

How should I give my custom size?

Give the length and width in both feet and cm, length first, after taping the outline on the floor. Include a photo of the room and note any doors or built in furniture near the rug.
