The Plush Collection: Deep Pile Handloom Wool

The Rugberry Plush Collection is a handloom New Zealand wool rug with a deep, quiet pile, made in six colours. It is built for the places where people sit on the floor or walk barefoot, rather than for chairs and shoes.

In short

  • The Rugberry Plush Wool Rug is handloom woven in New Zealand wool, with a pile Rugberry describes as plush underfoot, soft and deep.
  • Plush comes in six colours: Ivory, Wheat, Sand, Camel, Copper and Chocolate.
  • Each Plush colour starts from about ₹40,000 in 5x8 ft and runs to 12x15 ft, with any size to order.
  • A deep pile wool rug suits floor seating and bedrooms, and a low pile rug suits dining rooms where chairs move.

What is the Plush Collection?

Plush is a plain wool rug woven on a hand loom with a deep pile. The fibre is New Zealand wool, and the rug has no pattern, so its character comes from depth and softness rather than design.

Each of the six colours shares the same construction and price. The collection is also part of the Rugberry Quick Custom Program, which matters if your room does not match a stock size.

Why does a deep pile suit floor seating?

A deep pile suits floor seating because it cushions knees, ankles and the base of the spine on a hard marble or tile floor. Many Indian homes still keep a baithak corner with a gadda and bolsters, or seat guests on the floor during pujas and family gatherings.

Lay a Plush rug under the gadda and let it extend at least 1.5 ft past the mattress on the open sides. That border is where people actually sit when the gadda fills up, and where children play.

The test is simple: kneel on the rug for a minute. On a plush pile you should feel the wool give before you feel the floor.

Which of the six Plush colours works where?

Match the colour to how the room is used. A deep pile catches light and shadow, so every colour reads a little richer than on a flat rug.

  • Ivory and Wheat: the palest. Lovely in a master bedroom with white linen, but hard work in a room where people sit on the floor with chai and snacks.
  • Sand and Camel: warm mid tones that forgive dust and footprints. The safe choice for a baithak or a family room.
  • Copper: the warmest of the six, a strong note against cream walls and teak furniture.
  • Chocolate: the deepest. It hides marks well, but shows pale lint and light pet hair.

Does a deep pile wool rug shed?

Yes, at first. Any new wool pile rug releases loose fibres for the first weeks of use, and a deep pile shows it more because there is more wool on the surface.

This shedding is short fibre left from the making process, not the rug coming apart. Vacuum two or three times a week on suction only, with the beater brush switched off, and it slows down steadily.

If a single tuft stands up above the surface, snip it level with scissors. Never pull it, because pulling can draw out the yarn around it. Our guide on wool rug shedding goes into more detail.

How do you care for a deep pile in Indian conditions?

Dust and humidity are the two things to manage. A deep pile holds fine dust deeper than a flat rug, so vacuum slowly, in two directions, at least weekly in dry months.

  • Monsoon: keep the rug off a damp floor and run a fan in closed rooms. Wool handles humidity well, but a wet underside left for days can smell musty.
  • Summer: in rooms that are not air conditioned, a deep pile can feel warm, so some families roll it away in May and June.
  • Furniture dents: deep pile shows bed and table feet. Shift heavy pieces by a few cm each season and brush the dents up with your fingers.

Plush or Grain: which handloom wool rug do you need?

Both are handloom New Zealand wool, and they solve opposite problems. Choose Plush for comfort where people sit or stand barefoot, and choose the Grain Collection where chairs move and crumbs fall.

For a home that wants one of each, the common pairing is Grain under the dining table and Plush in the bedroom or the floor seating corner, in colours from the same warm family.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Plush Wool Rug good for a bedroom?

Yes. The Rugberry Plush Wool Rug has a deep, soft pile that suits bare feet beside a bed. For a queen bed, a 6x9 or 8x10 ft rug placed under the lower two thirds of the bed gives soft floor on both sides.

Will a Plush rug stop shedding?

Shedding from a new wool pile rug reduces steadily with regular gentle vacuuming. It is loose fibre from making, and it settles over the first months of use.

Can I use a Plush rug under a dining table?

It is not the best choice. Chairs sink into a deep pile and drag across it, so a low pile handloom rug such as Grain is the better fit for a dining room.

What size Plush rug do I need for a gadda?

Measure the gadda and add at least 1.5 ft on each open side. For a single gadda of about 6x3 ft against a wall, a 6x9 ft rug usually works.
