Turmoil, Moss and Eucalyptus: Lines That Move

Turmoil, Moss and Eucalyptus are three hand tufted New Zealand wool rugs from Rugberry, each built from two tones and one kind of moving line. Turmoil loops a single ivory line over charcoal, Moss runs paler waves through deep green and Eucalyptus turns its fine stripes halfway across the rug.

In short

  • Turmoil, Moss and Eucalyptus are hand tufted Rugberry rugs in New Zealand wool with a 14 to 16 mm pile, each using two tones and a line that moves across the field.
  • The Turmoil Wool Rug is the most affordable of the three, with a regular price of ₹31,000 for 5x8 ft ex GST at the time of writing, and Rugberry rates it for everyday use.
  • The Moss Wool Rug comes in standard sizes from 5x8 to 9x12 ft only, while Turmoil and Eucalyptus run up to 12x15 ft, and all three can be made to measure.
  • A looping or waving line on a mid to dark ground hides dust and footprints better than a plain rug of the same colour, because the eye follows the line rather than the marks.

What do Turmoil, Moss and Eucalyptus have in common?

Turmoil, Moss and Eucalyptus share one idea: two tones of hand tufted New Zealand wool, with a line that moves and gives the rug its energy. None of them relies on a motif, a border or a centre; the line is the whole design.

All three are tufted to a 14 to 16 mm cut pile in New Zealand wool of the Terra grade, the grade Rugberry uses for rugs meant to be lived on every day. They feel soft and even underfoot, and the pile holds its shape under a sofa or a dining chair.

What separates them is the kind of movement. Turmoil wanders, Moss flows in one direction and Eucalyptus is ruled straight but changes its mind halfway, so the same room reads very differently depending on which one is on the floor.

How does each rug move?

Each rug moves in its own way: Turmoil tangles, Moss ripples and Eucalyptus pivots. The difference matters more than the colour when you decide where a rug should go.

Turmoil: one line, no plan

The Turmoil Wool Rug is a charcoal field crossed by a single ivory line that loops, doubles back and knots itself across the whole rug. From standing height it reads like a pen drawing made without lifting the nib.

Because the line covers the field evenly, there is no front or back to Turmoil. That makes it easy in a room entered from two sides, or in a square room where the rug may be turned every few months.

Moss: waves along the length

The Moss Wool Rug is a deep moss green with paler lines that ripple along its length, like wind moving through tall grass. The waves run one way, so the rug has a clear direction.

Laid with the waves running along the longer wall, Moss draws the eye down the room. Turned the other way, the same waves cross the room and make it feel a little wider.

Eucalyptus: stripes that turn

The Eucalyptus Wool Rug is ivory, ruled in fine dark stripes. On one half the stripes run across, on the other they run lengthwise, and the two directions meet in a quiet seam down the middle.

It is the calmest of the three from across a room, and the most precise up close. Eucalyptus is part of the Nina Brunn x Rugberry collaboration, which our guide to Nina Brunn x Rugberry sets out in full.

A moving line gives the eye somewhere to go, so it stops looking for crumbs.

Which rug hides dust, pet hair and footprints best?

Turmoil hides daily marks best, Moss comes close, and Eucalyptus shows the most, because its ground is ivory. The rule is simple: a mid to dark ground with a busy line forgives more than a pale ground with an ordered one.

On Turmoil, grey dust from an open window and dark hair from a black Labrador sink into the charcoal, while the ivory line keeps the rug from reading as a dark hole on the floor. Pale hair, from a golden retriever or a white cat, will show on the charcoal between vacuums.

Moss is the most forgiving of brownish household dust and garden grit. The green sits close to the colour of soil and dried leaves, and the waves break up the surface so footprints read as part of the texture.

Eucalyptus needs a little more care. Its stripes hide fine lint along their length, but an ivory ground shows tea, turmeric and muddy paws sooner; it belongs where shoes come off at the door, which is most Indian homes anyway.

How do Turmoil, Moss and Eucalyptus compare?

Turmoil is the practical and most affordable choice, Moss the warmest and Eucalyptus the lightest and most composed. The table sets out the facts from Rugberry's live product data.

Tones Charcoal with one ivory line Deep moss green with paler waves Ivory with fine dark stripes
Movement Loops and tangles, no direction Waves along the length Stripes that turn halfway

For a busy family room with dark floors and children, choose Turmoil over Eucalyptus, because the charcoal ground and looping line absorb wear that an ivory ground would show within weeks.

Prices are regular prices ex GST at the time of writing; GST of 5 percent is added at checkout. Turmoil works out to about ₹775 per sq ft in 5x8 ft, Moss about ₹875 and Eucalyptus about ₹925.

Which rooms suit each rug?

Turmoil suits a living room or study that needs grounding, Moss a bedroom or reading room that wants warmth, and Eucalyptus a calm, light living room. Each fits more than one room, but each has a room where it is at its best.

Turmoil under a pale linen sofa in a 2BHK living room gives the seating a firm base, and the ivory line picks up white walls and cushions. In a study it sits well under a desk and chair, where the charcoal hides the castor tracks and the line keeps the floor lively on video calls.

Moss is at home in a bedroom with teak furniture, cane, linen and indoor plants. A 6x9 ft Moss under a queen bed, two thirds under the frame, leaves a band of green on three sides that feels like stepping onto a lawn in the morning.

Eucalyptus opens up a living room with large windows and pale walls. Because its stripes change direction, it rewards a symmetrical layout: place the seam on the centre line of the sofa and the room feels deliberately balanced.

Which floors suit a two tone line rug?

A two tone line rug works on most Indian floors as long as one of its tones contrasts with the floor. The rug needs an edge the eye can find, or the line floats with nothing to hold it.

On white marble and pale vitrified tile, Turmoil gives the strongest frame, a dark rectangle that anchors the furniture. Moss also works well on pale floors, where the green reads clearly and warms a cool, glossy surface.

On dark wood or black granite, Turmoil loses its edge, because charcoal on a dark floor blurs. There, Eucalyptus is the better choice: its ivory ground lifts the room and the fine stripes stay crisp. Our guide to a rug for dark wood or black granite floors goes floor by floor.

On Kota stone and mid tone wood, all three sit comfortably. Moss in particular looks settled on grey green Kota, where the two greens speak to each other without matching.

How do you care for these rugs?

Vacuum each rug regularly and leave deep cleaning to professionals, which is the care Rugberry gives for all three. A vacuum on a low setting, or with the beater bar switched off, is kinder to a cut pile. A hand tufted pile rewards steady, gentle care more than occasional hard cleaning.

Vacuum in the direction of the pile. On Moss, follow the waves along the length; on Eucalyptus, vacuum each half along its own stripes, so the pile lies the same way as the line and the stripes stay sharp.

Blot spills at once with a dry white cloth, working from the outside of the spot inward. On Eucalyptus, act quickly on turmeric and tea, which mark ivory wool fast; on Turmoil, the bigger risk is pale spills such as milk, which can leave a light ring on charcoal if left to dry.

Turn any of the three rugs end to end every few months, especially if one side gets afternoon sun through a west window. Our note on rotation explains why this evens out both wear and fading.

Which one should you choose?

Choose Turmoil for wear and value, Moss for warmth and colour, and Eucalyptus for light and calm. If two of them appeal, let the floor and the household decide.

A home with pets, children and a dark sofa leans to Turmoil. A bedroom or reading corner with natural materials leans to Moss, and the green rugs guide and our note on olive rugs show other greens to compare it with.

A pale living room where shoes stay at the door leans to Eucalyptus. For more on why a moving line ages better than a flat colour, read texture or pattern, and for darker grounds see charcoal and black rugs.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Turmoil Wool Rug black or charcoal?

Rugberry lists the Turmoil Wool Rug under charcoal and black rugs, and in daylight its ground reads as a very deep charcoal. Under warm evening lamps it can look close to black, so check a swatch in your own room at night as well as by day.

Can the Moss Wool Rug be made larger than 9x12 ft?

Yes. The standard Moss sizes stop at 9x12 ft, but Rugberry makes it to measure in any size, and in a different colour if you ask. A larger made to measure Moss suits a long living and dining room where one rug runs under both.

Does the seam in the Eucalyptus Wool Rug show as a join?

No. The change of stripe direction is part of the tufted design, not two pieces joined together, so the pile runs continuously across the middle. What you see is a line where the stripes turn, not a stitched edge.

Which of the three is best for a home with a dog?

For a dark coated dog, Turmoil is the easiest to live with, because its charcoal ground hides dark hair and paw marks. For a light coated dog, Moss is kinder, since pale hair shows less on mid green than on charcoal or ivory.

Can I see Turmoil, Moss or Eucalyptus before I buy?

Moss and Eucalyptus are listed as on display at the Rugberry Experiential Centre in Noida, and swatches are sold for most rugs. A swatch beside your sofa fabric and floor shows how the two tones sit in your own light.
