Ondulation and Nuage by Marie Ducept
Ondulation and Nuage are the two pieces from Marie Ducept x Rugberry that most change a room: Ondulation a 10x13 ft hand tufted wool rug whose surface runs in long undulations, Nuage a 9x13 ft wool and Botanical Silk rug that drifts like weather. Both are shaped and large, so plan the room around them rather than fitting them in.
In short
- Marie Ducept x Rugberry is a collaboration of four rugs, Ondulation, Empreinte, Perle and Nuage, designed in Paris by Marie Ducept and made by Rugberry, according to the collection page.
- Ondulation is hand tufted in New Zealand wool at 14 to 16 mm, listed at 10x13 ft for ₹1,75,000; Nuage is hand tufted in New Zealand wool and Botanical Silk, listed at 9x13 ft for ₹1,62,000, regular prices ex GST at the time of writing.
- Each piece has one listed size and can be made in any size and colour to order.
- A 10x13 ft shaped rug needs a room of roughly 14x17 ft or more, so that floor shows around its curves.
What are the Marie Ducept x Rugberry rugs?
Marie Ducept x Rugberry is a set of four rugs designed in Paris by Marie Ducept and made by Rugberry: Ondulation, Empreinte, Perle and Nuage. The collection page describes them as hand tufted in New Zealand wool and wool with Botanical Silk, with sculpted, painterly surfaces.
All four are quiet in colour, listed in ivory, beige and sand tones, so the interest lies in the surface and the outline. Rugberry's overview of Marie Ducept x Rugberry introduces all four. This guide looks closely at the two most different pieces, Ondulation and Nuage, and at how to plan a room for a large shaped rug.
The product images of these pieces are digital renders, not photographs, so read the descriptions alongside them. Rugberry's notes on designer collaborations explain how a designer's drawing becomes a Rugberry rug.
What is Ondulation like up close?
Ondulation is hand tufted in New Zealand wool, its surface running in long, even undulations, in ivory, beige and sand. Rugberry describes it as soft and even underfoot, with a dense pile that holds its shape at 14 to 16 mm, and cuts it to a shaped outline.

The undulations are the design. Seen from a chair, they read as slow waves across the floor; walked on, they are felt as a gentle change in the surface rather than a pattern in colour. Because the colours stay close, the rug works in rooms where a printed rug would be too much.
Ondulation is listed as an everyday rug and as pet friendly on its product page, which makes it the most practical of the four for a family living room. New Zealand wool, a Terra grade fibre, gives the pile its spring.
What is Nuage like up close?
Nuage is hand tufted in New Zealand wool and Botanical Silk, soft edged and drifting, which Rugberry describes as closer to weather than pattern. The Botanical Silk gives it a low sheen that shifts as you cross the room.

The name is French for cloud, and the product images show a soft, cloud-like outline in pale tones. Where Ondulation is felt, Nuage is seen: the sheen of the Botanical Silk passages moves with the light, so the rug looks different from the sofa than from the door.
Nuage is listed for moderate durability and as not pet friendly, because Botanical Silk marks more easily than wool. It suits a formal living room or a large bedroom where shoes stay at the door. Rugberry's guide to lighting and sheen shows how to place lamps so the Botanical Silk reads well.
How do the four Marie Ducept pieces compare?
The four pieces differ in fibre, surface and size, and each has one listed size. The table compares them at regular prices ex GST at the time of writing.
| Piece | Fibre | Surface, as described | Listed size | Price | Durability |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ondulation | New Zealand wool | Long, even undulations | 10x13 ft | ₹1,75,000 | Everyday |
| Nuage | Wool and Botanical Silk | Soft edged, drifting, like weather | 9x13 ft | ₹1,62,000 | Moderate |
| Perle | New Zealand wool | Beaded in small, even rounds | 9.5x12.5 ft | ₹1,90,000 | Everyday |
| Empreinte | Wool and Botanical Silk | A single soft impression across the field | 9x12.5 ft | ₹1,75,000 | Moderate |
For a family living room with children or a dog, choose Ondulation or Perle over Nuage and Empreinte, because all wool pieces are listed as everyday and pet friendly while the Botanical Silk pieces are not. For a formal room where the sheen matters most, choose Nuage.
How big a room does a 10x13 ft shaped rug need?
A 10x13 ft shaped rug needs a room of roughly 14x17 ft or more, so that at least 2 ft of floor shows around the widest points of the outline. A shaped rug looks cramped when its curves touch the walls or tuck under a straight run of furniture.

Measure the rug as its bounding box, the rectangle it fits inside, then add the margin. Ondulation at 10x13 ft wants about 14x17 ft of clear floor; Nuage at 9x13 ft about 13x17 ft. Many living rooms in new apartments in Gurgaon, Mumbai or Bengaluru are 12x16 ft or smaller, and there a large shaped rug fills too much.
Double height living rooms, villa drawing rooms and open plan spaces in farmhouses suit these pieces best. Rugberry's guide to living room rug sizes covers rectangles; the same margin rule applies to a shape, measured at its widest.
A shaped rug needs floor around it. The outline is half the design.
How should furniture sit on a shaped rug?
On a shaped rug, let the furniture sit inside the outline or clearly off it, never half on a curve. A sofa whose back legs fall off an undulating edge rocks and looks unplanned; a sofa placed fully on the rug, or set just beyond its edge, looks deliberate.
- Floating seating. Place a sofa and two chairs fully on Ondulation, facing each other, with the curves showing beyond them. This suits a room with no walls to lean on.
- Sofa against a wall. Keep the sofa off the rug and let only the front legs of the chairs touch the outline.
- Coffee table. A round or soft edged table repeats the outline. Keep it light so the surface still reads.
- Under a bed. A shaped rug can sit beside a bed rather than under it, so its outline stays visible.
Rugberry's guide to round rugs in modern rooms covers the same principle for circles.
How do you order a Marie Ducept piece in another size?
Each Marie Ducept piece is listed in one size and in any size and any colour to order, made to your measure. That means a smaller room can still have Ondulation or Nuage, scaled down, and a different palette can be specified if the ivory, beige and sand tones do not suit the space.
When scaling a shaped design, keep the proportions close to the original so the outline still reads; a 7x9 ft Ondulation will hold its waves, while a long, narrow version may not. Ask Rugberry for a drawing of the scaled outline before confirming the order.
See Ondulation, Nuage, Perle and Empreinte, or the Marie Ducept x Rugberry collection. Rugberry's guide to made to measure rugs explains how a custom size is specified.
How do you care for these large hand tufted pieces?
Care for Ondulation and Nuage by vacuuming regularly and using professional cleaning only, which is the care note on both product pages. The size and the shape add two practical points: rotation and edges.

A 10x13 ft rug is heavy and hard to turn, so plan a rotation twice a year with two people, or ask the cleaner to turn it after a professional clean. Shaped edges take more wear at the outermost curves, where feet catch them, so keep walkways clear of the tips of the outline.
On Nuage, keep water away from the Botanical Silk passages and blot any spill at once. On Ondulation, wool forgives more, but a professional clean once a year keeps the undulating surface looking even.
Which Indian homes suit Ondulation, and which suit Nuage?
Ondulation suits homes that are lived in hard and need a large statement that copes: a farmhouse drawing room, a villa living room with children, a double height space where the family gathers every evening. Nuage suits homes where one room is kept for guests and quiet evenings.
In a Delhi farmhouse with a 20x24 ft drawing room on Kota stone, Ondulation at 10x13 ft floats under a sectional with several feet of stone showing around it, and its all wool pile handles daily feet and the occasional dog. The warm ivory and sand sit naturally on a beige stone floor.
In a Mumbai or Bengaluru penthouse with white marble and a formal sitting room used mostly in the evening, Nuage at 9x13 ft lets its Botanical Silk sheen do the work under lamps. Keep it out of the path from the lift lobby to the kitchen.
Perle and Empreinte sit between the two. Perle, all wool and beaded in small rounds, is a calmer alternative to Ondulation; Empreinte, with Botanical Silk and a single soft impression, is a quieter alternative to Nuage. Rugberry's guide to investment pieces covers when a large designer rug is worth the outlay.
Frequently asked questions
Who designed the Ondulation and Nuage rugs?
Ondulation and Nuage were designed by Marie Ducept and are made by Rugberry, as part of the Marie Ducept x Rugberry collaboration. The collection page says the pieces were designed in Paris.
What size is the Ondulation rug?
Ondulation is listed at 10x13 ft for ₹1,75,000, regular price ex GST at the time of writing. Rugberry also makes it in any size and colour to order.
Is Nuage made of silk?
No. Nuage is New Zealand wool with Botanical Silk, a plant based yarn, and contains no fibre from the silkworm. That matters for care: Botanical Silk marks more easily than wool, so blot spills at once and keep Nuage away from dining chairs.
Which Marie Ducept rug is best with pets?
Ondulation and Perle, both all New Zealand wool, are listed as pet friendly and for everyday use. Nuage and Empreinte include Botanical Silk and are listed as not pet friendly.
Can a shaped designer rug go in a small living room?
A large shaped rug needs about 2 ft of clear floor around its widest points, so a small living room is better served by a scaled down version made to measure. Keep the proportions close to the original so the outline still reads.
