How to Compare Modern Rug Brands in India

To compare modern rug brands in India, compare the same facts for each one: fibre, construction, pile height, sizes and made to measure, making time, care, returns and the total price with GST. A brand that publishes these on every product page is easier to judge fairly than one that relies on photographs and adjectives.

Short answer

  • Modern rug brands in India are best compared on written facts: fibre, construction, pile height in mm, sizes, made to measure, making time, care, returns and price including GST.
  • Price should be compared per square foot within the same fibre and construction, because a hand knotted wool rug and a machine made synthetic rug are different products.
  • A swatch or a store visit is the most reliable way to compare colour, softness and density between brands.
  • Rugberry lists fibre, technique, thickness, sizes, making time, GST treatment and care on every rug page at rugberry.in.

What should you compare between modern rug brands?

Compare the facts that decide how a rug looks, feels and lasts, and that you can check in writing. Nine facts cover almost everything; the table is a checklist you can fill in for any brand.

Fact Why it matters A good answer looks like A weak answer looks like
Fibre Wear, feel, care and price New Zealand wool and cashmere, named Soft blend, premium yarn
Construction Lifespan and repair Handloom, hand knotted, hand tufted or hand woven Handcrafted, artisanal
Pile height Comfort, heat, cleaning 12 to 14 mm Plush, thick
Sizes Fit to your room Feet and cm, list of standard sizes One size shown
Made to measure Indian rooms are rarely standard Any size, shape and colour, by design On request, no detail
Making time Planning a move or handover Days by construction, in writing Soon, shortly
Care Real cost of ownership Vacuum, professional cleaning, keep dry Easy care, no detail
Returns and defects Risk if something goes wrong Written policy you can read before paying Ask the team
Price and GST The real number you pay Price per size, GST rate stated Price on request for standard pieces

The verdict: the brand that fills more of the third column, in writing, is the easier brand to trust, whatever its size or fame.

How do you read fibre names honestly?

Read fibre names literally and ask about anything vague. A label that names the fibre and its share is more useful than one that names a feeling.

Wool is a broad word, so ask which wool. "Wool blend" needs a question about the other fibre and its proportion. Silk is the hardest word: real silk is an animal fibre, while plant-based fibres with a silk-like sheen are sold under many names, so ask whether a silk rug is real silk or a plant-derived fibre.

Rugberry names its plant-derived fibre Botanical Silk and never sells it as silk; the one real silk rug in the India range, the hand knotted Couture, is described as silk. Each Rugberry rug also carries a provenance card with fibre, grade, origin, character, construction, technique, made and care, which makes this comparison quick. Rugberry's guide to reading a rug spec sheet walks through each line.

Compare what is written, not what is photographed. Facts travel between brands; adjectives do not.

How do you compare construction and price fairly?

Compare price per square foot within the same fibre and construction. A 5x8 ft rug is 40 sq ft, an 8x10 ft rug is 80 sq ft, and dividing the price by the area puts any two rugs on the same footing.

Then check the construction is the same. A hand knotted wool rug, a hand tufted wool rug and a machine made synthetic rug can look alike in photographs and differ several times in price and in life. Comparing them by price alone tells you nothing.

As a yardstick from Rugberry's own list, regular prices ex GST at the time of writing: a plain handloom wool weave lands near ₹900 to ₹1,000 a square foot, hand tufted wool ranges from about ₹775 to ₹1,200 depending on the design, the wool and cashmere blend sits near ₹1,350, and hand knotted wool near ₹1,400 to ₹1,600. Use figures like these to compare like with like across sellers. The companion post on custom rug cost in India lists every construction.

Which questions reveal how a brand handles custom work?

Five questions reveal most about how a brand handles made to measure work. Ask them by email so the answers are in writing.

  1. Can any design in your range be made in any size, shape and colour, or only some?
  2. How many days does a made to measure rug take, by construction, and when does the clock start?
  3. How are custom colours approved: on screen, by swatch, or from yarn poms before weaving?
  4. Can I see a swatch of the fibre and texture before ordering, and is its cost credited?
  5. Is a made to measure rug returnable, and what happens if it arrives with a defect?

Rugberry's answers: any design can be made to measure in any size, shape or colour; product pages list around 30 days for hand tufted and hand woven rugs, 35 for handloom and 60 for hand knotted, plus delivery; custom colour is approved from yarn poms before weaving; a 30 x 30 cm swatch costs ₹800 and is credited against the rug; each rug is made for one client so sales are final, and manufacturing defects reported promptly after delivery are replaced.

How do you compare care, returns and after sales?

Compare the care note, the returns policy and how easily you can reach a person. These decide what a rug costs after the day it arrives.

A care note should say how to vacuum, what to do with a spill and whether the rug can be washed. "Professional cleaning only" is a real cost to plan for once every year or two, and "keep dry" matters in a Mumbai or Kochi monsoon.

For returns, read the policy before paying, not after. Handmade rugs made to order are often final sale, which is reasonable, but the defect policy and the reporting window should be clear. Finally, check there is a phone, WhatsApp or email that a person answers; Rugberry's is +91 96507 38435 and info@rugberry.in.

How does Rugberry answer the checklist?

Rugberry answers the checklist on each product page: fibre and grade, technique, thickness in mm, colours, standard sizes and any size to order, made to measure time, prices excluding GST with GST added at checkout, and a care line.

Three examples at regular price, ex GST, at the time of writing: the Grain Wool Rug in Flax, handloom New Zealand wool at 12 to 14 mm, ₹37,000 for 5x8 ft; the Cavea Wool Rug, hand tufted New Zealand wool at 14 to 16 mm, ₹40,000 for 5x8 ft; and the Cashmere Blend Rug in Salt, handloom wool and cashmere at 16 mm, ₹54,000 for 5x8 ft.

Rugberry also lets you check in person at the Noida Experiential Centre and partner stores in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kochi, listed on the store locator. Where it fits and where it does not is set out in the companion post on the best rug brand for interior designers.

How do you shortlist modern rug brands in a week?

You can shortlist in a week by narrowing on facts first and touch second. Spend the first two days on paper and the rest with samples.

  • Day 1 to 2. Pick three to five brands and fill the checklist table for one rug from each, in the same size and fibre.
  • Day 3. Drop any brand that could not answer fibre, construction or returns in writing.
  • Day 4 to 6. Order swatches or visit stores for the remaining two or three, and look at each on your own floor at morning and evening.
  • Day 7. Compare price per square foot with GST, and choose.

Rugberry's guide on how to choose a designer rug covers the design side of the same decision, and the modern rugs collection is a place to start the first column.

What are the warning signs when comparing rug brands?

A few warning signs come up again and again when comparing rug sellers. None proves a rug is poor, but each is a reason to ask more before paying.

  • Silk without a qualifier. A low priced "silk" rug is rarely real silk. Ask what the fibre is made from.
  • Handmade without a construction. Handmade covers hand knotted, handloom, hand tufted and hand woven, which differ in price and life.
  • No pile height or size in centimetres. Without them you cannot compare comfort or check the fit.
  • Renders only. Room images made on a computer are useful for mood, but ask for a real photograph or a swatch of the rug itself.
  • Vague making times. "Soon" is not a date; ask for days by construction.
  • No GST invoice or unclear tax. A proper invoice protects you and, for designers and businesses, matters for accounts.

Rugberry product pages carry studio photographs and close ups of each rug alongside room images. Hold every brand, Rugberry included, to the same list.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best modern rug brand in India?

The best brand is the one whose written facts suit your room and budget: named fibre, stated construction, pile height, sizes, made to measure, making time, care and a clear returns policy. Comparing brands on that checklist gives a fairer answer than any ranking.

Is a more expensive rug brand always better?

No. Price reflects fibre, construction, size and design complexity, so compare price per square foot within the same fibre and construction. A higher price for a different construction may be fair; a higher price for the same facts needs a reason.

How can I compare rug colours between brands online?

Order swatches of the shortlisted rugs and view them together on your own floor, in daylight and in evening light. Screens vary too much for colour to be compared reliably from photographs alone.

Should I trust a brand that does not name the fibre?

Ask first. A brand may simply have an incomplete listing, but if it cannot tell you the fibre and construction in writing when asked, you have no way to judge wear, care or price.

Does Rugberry publish its prices?

Yes. Rugberry lists prices per size on every rug page at rugberry.in, excluding GST, which is added at 5 percent at checkout. Rugberry Reserve pieces in the rarest fibres are priced on request.

A fair comparison is a calm one: the same facts, the same size, the same light. Start the list with any brand you like, Rugberry included.
