See a Rug in Your Room Before You Buy

You can see a Rugberry rug in your own room before you buy it with the View in your space button on the rug page. On a phone it places the rug on your floor at true size through the camera, or shows it in a photo of your room; on a laptop it opens a 3D view with a QR code for your phone.

In short

  • On rugberry.in, the View in your space button sits under Add to cart on most rug pages and opens a preview of that rug in the size you have selected.
  • On a phone, Live on your floor uses the camera to place the rug at true size, and In a photo of your room places the rug in a photo you take or upload, in about 30 to 40 seconds.
  • On a laptop or desktop, View in your space opens a 3D view of the rug with size chips and a QR code that opens the same rug on your phone.
  • The Rugberry preview is reliable for size, footprint and pattern scale, while exact colour, Botanical Silk sheen and the feel of the pile are judged best with a swatch or in person.

What is View in your space on rugberry.in?

View in your space is a preview tool on Rugberry rug pages that shows a rug in your room before you order it. It sits directly under the Add to cart button, as one button with a small cube icon.

The preview always follows the size you have chosen on the page. Each standard size of a rug has its own 3D model, so a 5x8 ft rug and a 9x12 ft rug of the same design are not the same picture stretched; round and shaped rugs are scaled to their diameter or longest side.

The tool appears on most rug pages, not all of them. If you do not see the button on a rug you like, the rug page, a swatch and a measuring tape still do the job.

Rugberry added it for a simple reason: a rug page shows the rug, not your room. A rug that looked right on the screen can turn out to cover the sofa legs by too little, or swallow a small bedroom, and the preview catches that before the order rather than after.

How do you see a rug on your floor with your phone?

To see a rug on your floor, open the rug page on your phone, select a size, tap View in your space, then choose Live on your floor. The option note on screen reads "Use your camera to place the rug at true size".

On an iPhone, the rug opens in Apple's AR viewer at true size, and pinching does not shrink or enlarge it, so what you see is the real footprint. On Android, the rug opens in a camera view in the browser where the phone supports it, or in the phone's own AR viewer.

The steps that give the most honest result are short:

  1. Choose the size on the rug page first, because the model you see is the size you selected.
  2. Clear the floor of loose toys, bags and floor cushions, so the camera can find a flat surface.
  3. Stand in the doorway or behind the sofa, hold the phone at chest height and move it slowly across the floor until the rug appears.
  4. Walk around the rug and look from where you usually sit, not only from where you stand.

Light matters to the camera. A room lit evenly by daylight or ceiling lights works better than one lamp in a corner, and a polished white marble floor reflecting a window can make it harder for the phone to settle the rug.

How does the room photo option work?

The room photo option places the rug into a photo of your room. On the same sheet, choose In a photo of your room, whose note reads "Upload a photo and see it under your furniture".

The tool then asks you to "Take or upload a photo of your room" and adds a clear instruction: "Stand back so the floor is in view, with the sofa or bed in the frame." After you choose the photo, the preview usually takes about 30 to 40 seconds.

The result appears under the heading "Your room, with this rug", with a note that sets the right expectation: "A preview to help you choose. Colour and scale are close, the rug itself is made by hand." If the first attempt looks off, the Try another photo button lets you start again.

Privacy is simple. The tool states that your photo is used only to make this preview and is not stored, and each person gets a small number of room previews a day, after which the tool asks you to try again tomorrow.

Choose the size first. The preview shows the rug you selected, not a rug that fits the screen.

Can you use View in your space on a laptop?

Yes. On a laptop or desktop, View in your space opens a 3D view of the rug, which you can turn by dragging and bring closer by scrolling.

Beside the 3D view, size chips sit under the label "Size, shown at true size", so you can switch between 6x9 ft and 8x10 ft and watch the proportions change. The room photo option is there too, if your room photos are on the computer.

A QR code at the bottom carries the line "See it on your floor: scan with your phone". Scanning it opens the same rug on your phone, which is handy when you have been browsing on a laptop and want to check the floor without starting again.

For interior designers, the laptop view is a quick way to show a client the pattern and proportions of a rug during a call. The phone modes then answer the question the client always asks next: how big is it in my room?

What does the preview show well, and what does it not?

The preview shows size, footprint and pattern scale well, and it shows colour only approximately. Use it to settle the size and the layout, and use a swatch or a visit to settle colour and feel.

Question you are asking View in your space Swatch or seeing it in person
Will an 8x10 ft rug fit between the sofa and the TV unit? Yes, true size on your floor Not on its own
Do the sofa's front legs reach the rug? Yes, from where you sit No
Is the pattern too large or too busy for the room? Yes, the scale is right Partly, a swatch shows only a corner
Is the colour right under my evening lights? Roughly; the tool says colour is close Yes, in your own light
How does Botanical Silk catch the light from the window? Not reliably Yes
How soft and how thick is the pile, and will a door clear it? No Yes, measure the swatch

Verdict: use View in your space to choose the size and the layout, and order a swatch to choose the colour, because a phone screen cannot show how a dyed fibre looks in your own light.

Our guides to why rug colour online differs from the room and north and south light explain why colour is the one thing a screen cannot settle.

How do different Rugberry rugs test the preview?

Different rugs test the preview in different ways, and three Rugberry rugs show the range: a plain sheen, a high contrast line and a stepped band.

The Luma Silk Rug in Charcoal is handloom woven in Botanical Silk at 10 mm, plain charcoal with a sheen that shifts as the light moves. The preview gets its size and depth of tone right, but the way Botanical Silk turns lighter or darker as you walk round it is something only the rug itself shows. Its regular price is ₹40,000 for 5x8 ft and ₹79,000 for 8x10 ft, ex GST at the time of writing.

The Mosaic Wool Rug is hand tufted in New Zealand wool at 14 to 16 mm, a black field drawn with ivory outline lines. High contrast lines are where the preview helps most, because you can see at once whether the lines feel calm or busy at your room's scale. It is ₹37,000 for 5x8 ft and ₹74,000 for 8x10 ft at regular price, ex GST at the time of writing.

The Cadence Wool Rug is hand tufted in New Zealand wool at 14 to 16 mm in stepped bands. In the preview, check which way the bands run against your longest wall, since turning the rug changes how long the room feels. Cadence is ₹54,000 for 6x9 ft and ₹80,000 for 8x10 ft at regular price, ex GST at the time of writing.

How do you double check the size the preview shows?

Double check the size with tape on the floor. Mark the rug's outline with painter's tape at the size you plan to order, then compare it with what the preview showed.

The tape stays down for a day, which the preview cannot do. You walk round it with tea in hand, pull the dining chairs out over it, open the balcony door across it and notice where the cleaning mop will catch, which is how a family really tests a rug.

Check the gaps while the tape is down. About 12 to 18 inches of floor between rug and walls usually looks right in an Indian living room, and our guides to front legs on the rug, the 8x10 rug and sizing mistakes online cover the layouts.

When the tape and the preview agree, the size question is closed. What remains is colour, pile and feel, and that is where a swatch before you buy or a visit to the Noida Experiential Centre or a partner store finishes the job.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to download an app to see a Rugberry rug in my room?

No. View in your space runs from the rug page on rugberry.in in your phone's browser, and on iPhone the live view opens in Apple's own AR viewer, which is already on the phone.

Why does the rug look smaller on my phone than I expected?

Usually because the selected size is smaller than the one you had in mind, since the live view shows the size chosen on the page. Change the size on the rug page, then open View in your space again.

Can I use a photo of a room that is still being built?

Yes, as long as the floor is visible and something gives a sense of scale, such as a door, a window sill or a chair. A furnished room gives the clearest sense of scale, so treat a bare site photo as a rough guide.

Does View in your space work for round rugs?

Yes, on round rugs that carry the button, the model is scaled to the diameter you select, such as 6 ft or 8 ft. It is a good way to check whether a round rug clears the chairs around a dining table when they are pulled out.

Can an interior designer use the preview for a client's site?

Yes. A designer can open the rug on a phone at the site and place it live on the floor, or upload a site photo from the laptop, then share the decision with the client before ordering a swatch to confirm colour.
