Insignia: A Single Emblem on Handloom Wool and Botanical Silk
Insignia is a Rugberry rug woven on the handloom in New Zealand wool and Botanical Silk, drawn with a single emblematic form at its centre. It is a quiet statement piece: one mark, two fibres, a pile of 14 to 16 mm and a low sheen that shifts as you cross the room.
In short
- The Rugberry Insignia Wool & Silk Rug is handloom woven in New Zealand wool and Botanical Silk, a plant based fibre, with a pile of 14 to 16 mm.

What is the Insignia rug made of?
The Insignia rug is made of New Zealand wool and Botanical Silk, woven on the handloom. The wool gives body, softness and resilience; the Botanical Silk gives a low sheen that catches light across the emblem and the field.

The two fibres behave differently, and that is the reason to combine them. New Zealand wool is matte, springy and durable.
It sits in Rugberry's Terra grade, the grade of strength and everyday living. Botanical Silk is a smooth, lustrous plant based fibre. Rugberry names it in full because it is not silk from silkworms, and it carries no grade of its own.
Together they make a surface with two speeds. In flat light, Insignia reads as a soft, even taupe.
As you move, the Botanical Silk lifts, and the drawing becomes clearer. Rugberry's guide to wool versus Botanical Silk explains each fibre on its own, and silk versus Botanical Silk explains why the names matter.
Insignia is woven, not tufted. That places it among Rugberry's handloom pieces, alongside Plush, Grain, Luma, Nuva, Cabra, Meraki and the Cashmere Blend.
Handloom weaving also gives Insignia its hand. The yarns sit closely in rows, so the surface feels even and settled rather than loose, and the pile of 14 to 16 mm is deep enough to feel soft without losing the crispness of the drawing.
What does the Insignia design look like?
Insignia is drawn with a single emblematic form at its centre, set on a calm taupe field. There is no border and no repeat. The rug is about one mark and the space around it.

That restraint is the design. Most statement rugs make their point with scale, colour or a busy pattern. Insignia makes it by leaving almost everything out, so the one form in the middle carries the room.
The name fits. An insignia is a mark of identity, the kind of sign stitched on a uniform or pressed into a seal. On a floor, it gives a room a centre, which is useful in open plan Indian apartments where the living area has no obvious focus.
Because the form sits at the centre, Insignia rewards careful placement. It is designed to be seen whole, with the coffee table set to one side or kept light and low, rather than parked over the emblem.
The colour is deliberately quiet. A taupe field, neither warm brown nor cool grey, sits well on white marble, grey vitrified tile, oak and teak alike. That neutrality is what lets one strong form carry the rug without the room feeling loud.
Insignia makes its point by leaving almost everything out. One form carries the room.
Which rooms suit the Insignia rug?
Before choosing a room, picture where the eye lands when you enter. Insignia works best where that first glance falls on open floor, because its single form is meant to be met head on, not glimpsed between chair legs.

Insignia suits rooms where the rug can be seen whole: a formal living room, a bedroom with the emblem below the bed, an entrance hall, a study or a lounge with a low coffee table. It suits rooms with moderate traffic better than a busy family room.
- Formal living room: 8x10 ft or 9x12 ft, sofa front legs on the rug, a light or glass coffee table so the centre stays visible.
- Bedroom: 8x10 ft under a queen bed, set so the emblem falls in the open floor below the bed.
- Entrance hall or foyer: 5x8 ft or 6x9 ft, centred, the first thing a guest sees.
- Study: 6x9 ft in front of a desk, with the chair on a hard floor or a separate mat.
Real Insignia rooms photographed by Rugberry show it in a living room with low, light furniture and plain walls, which is the setting it was made for. Our post on the statement rug covers how to build a room around a single strong piece.
For a busy family room with children and pets, consider a handloom wool such as the Grain range instead, because Botanical Silk shows pressure marks and spills more readily than wool. Insignia will cope with family life, but it looks its best in a room that is used with some care.
How do you care for an Insignia rug?
Care for an Insignia rug by vacuuming it regularly with suction only, blotting spills at once and leaving any deep clean to a professional. The wool is forgiving; the Botanical Silk asks for a gentler hand.
Botanical Silk does not like water or rubbing. A spill that is rubbed can leave a pale, roughened patch where the fibre has been disturbed. Blot with a clean, dry white cloth, working from the outside in, and call a professional cleaner if anything remains.
In the monsoon, keep the rug off damp floors and air the room on dry days. Turn the rug every three to four months so sun from a window fades it evenly, and so the emblem, which sits at the centre, wears evenly too. A rug pad underneath keeps it from moving on marble or tile.
Rugberry's guide to a daily rug care routine sets out the simple habits that keep any wool and Botanical Silk rug looking new.
How much does the Insignia rug cost?
The Insignia Wool & Silk Rug's regular price runs from ₹40,000 for 5x8 ft to ₹1,80,000 for 12x15 ft, ex GST, at the time of writing. GST is added at checkout, and a seasonal sale, when running, may show lower prices on the product page.
| Size | Metric | Regular price, ex GST | Typical room |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5x8 ft | 150x240 cm | ₹40,000 | Entrance, study, small bedroom |
| 6x9 ft | 180x270 cm | ₹54,000 | Bedroom, compact living room |
| 8x10 ft | 240x300 cm | ₹80,000 | Living room in a 2 or 3 BHK, queen bedroom |
| 9x12 ft | 270x360 cm | ₹1,08,000 | Larger living room, king bedroom |
| 10x14 ft | 300x420 cm | ₹1,40,000 | Villa living room |
| 12x15 ft | 360x450 cm | ₹1,80,000 | Double height or very large rooms |
Any size outside these six can be made to measure, as can a different colour. Insignia is customisable, so the emblem can be woven in a colour drawn from your room, or the field shifted lighter or darker. Our guide to made to measure rugs explains the process.
How does Insignia compare with Sepia and Cabella?
Insignia, Sepia and Cabella all combine New Zealand wool and Botanical Silk, but Insignia and Sepia are handloom woven while Cabella is hand tufted. Insignia is the emblem piece, Sepia is the warm, tonal one, and Cabella is the plain field with a low sheen.

The Sepia Wool & Silk Rug is handloom woven in warm browns, the tone of an old photograph. It is listed in 5x8 ft at ₹44,000 regular price, and can be made to measure in other sizes. Choose Sepia over Insignia when you want warmth and tone rather than a single drawn form.
The Cabella Wool & Silk Rug is hand tufted at 14 to 16 mm in plain colours such as Latte, Flax, Frost and Mink, from ₹41,000 for 5x8 ft. It is the quietest of the three. Our Cabella guide covers it in full.
For a room that needs a focal point, choose Insignia. For a room that needs warmth, choose Sepia. For a room that needs only a soft, calm floor, choose Cabella.
Interior designers often specify Insignia in a custom colour for a project, keeping the emblem and changing the field to match a stone floor or a wall finish. That keeps the rug's character while making it belong to one room.
Where can you see the Insignia rug in person?
You can see the Insignia rug at the Rugberry Experiential Centre in Noida, where it is part of the display, and ask about it at Rugberry's partner stores across India. A swatch also lets you feel the wool and Botanical Silk together at home.
Seeing Insignia in person matters more than with a plain rug. The sheen of Botanical Silk and the way the emblem appears and fades with the light are hard to judge on a screen. Ten minutes walking around it tells you more than any photograph.
The store locator lists the Noida centre and partner stores with opening hours, and the Experiential Centre collection shows every rug on display there. Interior designers can request samples through the trade programme.
